Now that our cold swim challenge has come to an end after December, we wanted to jump in and say thank you to everyone who participated. It was amazing to see all the entries and to inspire each other to brave the cold waters together. To continue to inspire our community to enjoy our local coast lines this season, we have gathered our favourite cold swim spots in Helsinki below. If you’re close by or visiting, we definitely recommend checking them out!
Löyly
Löyly is a unique sauna and swim experience, located right at the harbor of Helsinki. Löyly is a great way to get into cold swimming, as you can easily warm up in one of the two saunas between swimming in the Baltic Ocean. Their authentic saunas will guarantee you the most Finnish experience there is. Added benefit: You will receive towels and are free to use their shampoo, so you won’t need to bring your own, which is perfect, especially when you’re only visiting! Löyly also has an amazing restaurant, so you can enjoy a nice breakfast or meal after your swim session!
Allas Sea Pool
Allas Sea Pool is another amazing spot in Helsinki to enjoy cold swimming. It is located close to the market hall, also right at the harbor of Helsinki. Allas Sea Pool offers a heated 25m lap pool, but also a pool with sea water (at the current sea water temperature!) and amazing floating saunas to warm up in between dips in the cold water.
Eiranranta, Lauttasaari & Uunisaari
If you’re looking for a challenge, skip taking a sauna and head straight into the water from one of the endless spots in and around Helsinki. For example Eiranranta, Lauttasaari and Uunisaari are just some of the coastal spots and islands in Helsinki, where going in the water will be easy and a great way to experience our beautiful nature. Plus, it’s free! Just remember to take some extra warm clothes with you, to warm up in after your swim. Also we recommend never going for an icy dip alone – it’s always safer to go with a friend.
Katajanokka
Our main harbour in Helsinki is also a popular spot for cold swimming. Located in the east of Katajanokka you will find a traditional carpet washing pier, from which it is easy to get into the water. Especially during the winter months, this pier is a favourite spot for cold swimmers!
