HOW IT ALL STARTED
Lilja the Label is a Finnish swimwear brand established in Turku in 2016. We got tired of ill-fitting, average looking bikinis and the pretty much non existent availability of swimwear outside the summer months. Our aim is to create high-quality bikinis that are available year-round with affordable prices. No more ‘this will do’. Your swimsuit is supposed to stay on, look great and not cost you a fortune! To keep our designs unique, we only manufacture a small quantity of each set. Get ready to stand out in the most comfortable swimwear you’ve ever put your body in.
LOVING OUR LITTLE PLANET
Our brand has come together with a little help from all over the world. Our products have been designed during our travels around the world. We are so inspired by this beautiful planet of ours and the endless beauty and opportunities it offers us. We hope you can see this in our designs! Our products are manufactured ethically in Guangzhou, China and in Bali, Indonesia. We have had the honour to personally visit both of our factories and we’re proud to announce that our products are completely sweat shop free and ethically made. Our warehouse is located in Espoo, Finland and your orders are sent to you by our Finnish team.
TAKING CARE OF THE ENVIRONMENT
We are passionate about doing the right thing and taking care of our beautiful planet so that the next generations, too, can also enjoy everything we love so much. We’re aiming to generate as little waste and pollution as possible in our entire production chain – in manufacturing, storing, packing and shipping. Our products are currently manufactured in two factories: one in Guangzhou, China and the other in Bali, Indonesia. We have decided on these factories after extensive research of their working conditions, fair wages and holidays. We’ve had the pleasure to personally visit both factories and we are proud to announce that our products are completely sweatshop-free and ethically made. Both factories are small and only manufacture swimwear and activewear – this is a way of making sure they really are experts in what they do and we can provide the best possible quality for our customers.
We’re moving our entire production to our Bali factory during 2019. While we absolutely adore our factory in China, it has outgrown us (great for them!) and raised their minimum order quantities. We want to keep our items unique and therefore only manufacture limited quantities. Also, Lilja the Label is not a fast fashion brand. Therefore we don’t want to manufacture an excessive amount of stock that would end up discounted or left unsold. So let’s keep the quantities small, every single item loved and the environment healthy!

Our customers are the heart and soul of everything we do here at Lilja, and what’s important to you is also important to us. We are passionate about doing the right thing and taking care of our planet so that the next generations, too, can also enjoy everything we love so much.
We are using an ethical factory in Bali, Indonesia, that we have had the pleasure to visit personally. You can read more about our factory above. We have chosen our factory for the following reasons:
- They only manufacture swimwear and activewear -> they are experts in swimwear and activewear -> best possible quality -> our products last longer -> less waste.
- Low minimum order quantities -> we’re able to place smaller orders -> no bikini is left unsold -> less waste.
- Our factory uses fabrics that are locally made right next to the factory -> we do not fly our fabrics from the other side of the world to our factory and then back to the other side of the world to us -> lower costs and less emissions.
Product packaging and shipping
We pack your orders in little fabric pouches made of recycled cotton. They are fully reusable and we are really hoping to see you use them again and again! Slip your swimwear in the pouch before throwing it in your bag to protect your cozzies, store or make-up in it, give it away as a present – you name it! This little bag also protects your swimwear during shipping. No plastic needed for packaging!
After your swimwear has been slipped in these pouches, we slip the pouch into our shipping envelope. Our envelopes have our logo on top and combined with our cotton pouches they’ll get your product to you safe and unharmed. No plastic needed for packaging again!
As there is only so much a paper packaging can do, if your order is very large, we’ll either pack it into a cardboard box or a plastic shipping bag. We’re currently looking for more sustainable ways to ship our bigger orders as well.
We don’t have a separate warehouse, meaning no extra heating, water, electricity etc. consumption. We’re SO lucky to be able to use my mother’s guest room in Espoo, Finland, as our little stock room. It’s more environmentally friendly, we have access to it 24/7 if needed and hanging out with mum daily is a huge plus. Shoutout to mums!

How to keep your new swimwear looking fresh?
– Rinse your swimwear with fresh water after every use, as soon as possible.
– Do not leave your bikini to dry in direct sunlight to avoid fading of colours.
– Hand wash at no more than 30°C. Or just have a swim instead!
– No machine washing, tumble drying or ironing.
– Do not hang your bikini to dry from its straps to avoid stretching.
Domestic (Finnish) orders are shipped via Posti within 2 days upon confirmed payment. Please allow a little bit longer around restock days as we can get really busy and are still a small company. Expected delivery of your order will vary between 2 – 5 days. Please note that Posti doesn’t deliver to all areas every day anymore – this is out of our control and might cause delays.
International orders will be shipped either via DHL Express or Finnish Post Standard – this is your choice! All orders are usually shipped within 2 days upon confirmed payment. Please allow a little bit longer around restock days as we can get really busy and are still a small company.
- Expected delivery via DHL Express is 1-2 business days to other EU countries and 3-4 business days to non-EU countries. Please note that orders to non-EU countries might be liable for additional import taxes and other fees determined by your country that we are not responsible of. All DHL Express orders receive a tracking code and real-time tracking updates. This is your choice if you are in rush!
- Expected delivery via Finnish Post should be within a week, but this depends on your location and how your local courier operates. Please note that these packages don’t receive a tracking code.
Please be aware that we can not guarantee exact arrival dates but we will, of course, do all we can to ensure you receive your order as soon as possible!
Please note that international orders might be liable for additional import taxes and other fees in your country if your shipping address is outside the European Union. We are not responsible of these duties, taxes and fees.
We absolutely love every single one of the items we have created and we hope you feel the same! If for any reason you don’t, don’t worry!
We have a full 14-day exchange and return policy counted from the day you receive your order. If you wish to return or exchange your order or parts of it, please attach our return form to your return shipment. In case your package was missing this form (as cool as we are, we’re only human!) or if you have misplaced it, please e-mail us for further instructions. Should you need any help regarding returns or exchanges, please do not hesitate to contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please note: the products must be unworn, clean and undamaged.
The customer is responsible for the full costs of the return, including shipping and packaging. We are not responsible for lost or misdirected returns so please make sure you verified the information before sending the items back to us. In the case of an exchange, we will cover the costs of your new delivery.
If you wish to cancel your order, contact us as soon as possible at email@example.com with your name, product information and order number. If the order has already been shipped, you will need to carry out a standard return (please see instructions above). A shipment that gets returned to us because the customer has not picked it up from the post office, IS NOT a return. In this case, we can not refund you the entire amount. This causes us unnecessary costs and therefore we will only be able to refund the difference.
