At Lilja we are striving forward and making a big effort to work towards a more circular business model. One of our solutions for more sustainability is our preorder system. This way we can avoid overproduction, which is such a big problem within the fashion industry.
We at Lilja understand overproduction is a rampant issue in the fashion industry, leading to tons of unsold clothes ending up in landfills and is therefore one of the biggest contributors to harming the environment. As we love nature and spending our time outside, this goes against our values which is why we have introduced the preorder system as one of our steps towards sustainability and optimising our production volumes.
When an item is available for preorder, it means that it is not available for immediate shipment. Instead it is being manufactured or on the way to us from the factory during the time of an order.
Why preorders?
Preorders also help us understand our customers better, know what their most loved pieces are, and therefore improve our product selection. By allowing our customers to preorder items before production begins, we can ensure that each piece is created with purpose and minimize the chances of unsold products. This system has the other benefit of only producing what has been ordered and therefore significantly decreasing our environmental footprint.
With this approach our factory can have a bigger focus on the quality of the products, thus avoiding rushed product production. That way attention can go into each piece and detail, meeting the highest standards, for our customers to receive high-quality products.
Building trust with transparency
By implementing our preorder system customers have a better view of our operations. As follows they get to know exactly where their clothes come from and how they are produced. This transparency builds trust between Lilja the Label and our customers, creating a long-lasting relationship based on shared values.

With our preorder system, we hope to inspire other fashion labels to a more sustainable approach in their operations, by demonstrating that success is achievable whilst prioritizing sustainability. Educating our community about the environmental impact of overproduction helps build a community that understands the importance of slow and conscious fashion.
